AgeLab Hosts Webinar on COVID-19 Findings
by Adam Felts
MIT AgeLab Director Joseph Coughlin hosted an AgeLab-members-only webinar discussing the impacts of COVID-19 on various domains of the longevity economy, drawing on findings from AgeLab survey research. Topics discussed during the webinar included planning for retirement, transportation and community, home technology adoption, caregiving, and the workplace. Dr. Coughlin also highlighted generational differences in attitudes related to COVID-19 and its impacted domains, including worries about the pandemic and optimism about the future.
Speaking generally, Dr. Coughlin observed that many changes introduced by the pandemic will not simply vanish or return to "normal" once the virus has been controlled. Instead, he said, COVID-19 has acted as an accelerant of societal changes that were already taking place due to technological advancement.
